Fun pair of shakers with insects on the Chrysanthemum bloom which is sitting on a leaf base. These would have been made in Japan, circa early 1900s. I believe these are pepper pots and would have come with open salts, I did find an open salt but it was made in Sterling - mine are unmarked. I'm not sure what the metal is they are made of, some of the gold wash/gilt still in place. Each shaker is 1 1/4"H x 1 3/4"W.

I have noticed that some older Japanese sterling silver is not marked and that might be the case here.
A jeweller should be able to acid test them if you can't.
      Gorgeous things.
