This lovely antique sake/tokkuri flask/jug was made in Japan between 1860 and 1890.

These flasks were produced all over Japan, with the largest production centers in Tanba, Takada and Arita and were rented or loaned to people from local liquor shops - the name of the shop, as well as, the liquor it contained, were often printed on the bottle.

The Japanese name translates in English to 'poor liquor bottle' or 'commuter bottle.'

It measures a tall 8 inches (20 cm.) in height and 4.25 inches (10.25 cm.) in width.

The original rope is still intact around the neck.

Yes, that looks like an Arnart label, so def Japan import. I've not seen these calligraphy vases before. What is the size, pls?

It's a tokkuri from Japan. A sake (rice wine) bottle. There are vintage tokkuri, and they are still made, today.
