This is a great early 20th century Barber Chair - it's in very good condition and still working. The best thing is that it has the original head rest (which is often missing). Another plus was the child booster seat which is almost always missing.

Theodore Koch is renowned for his barber chairs.

The other pictures are of a vintage Frederics Permanent Wave Machine - perish the thought of going through this ordeal. Looks like something for the Bride of Frankenstein. All those dangling wires have clips on the ends that are attached to your hair to curl it.

Then there's the Frederics Vaporizer Hair Treatment. I don't know about you, but I don't want my hair vaporized!

Wonderful items, but creepy dontcha think? Reminds me of the Bride of Frankenstein and a little bit of marge Simpson. There's a pub not far from me called "The Beauty Bar." Lined up with the original hairdryer seats. Not this old of course. I heard on the radio today about an upcoming museum show on "women"; I think 1890 to 1940? ANyway, I think you got museum pieces there, but I wouldn't put them in my home if you paid me. :-)

Oh dear, it just hit me why I have the chills. I recall a pic of me circa 1959 with me on a tricycle, eating a banana, with my hair in rollers. (I made them pay.) My mother, and my sister (13 years older) loved no more than to torture me by ripping my hair out by the roots and rolling it around those wire curlers. I fought like Helen Keller meets Anne Sullivan except I never learned anything for it, except that maybe I could get some Play-Do (sp) -- the stuff in the egg, out of the deal. Shiver!

You started my day out with a laugh! Thanks. I remember those "Roller" days and dreading my Mom's hairstyling too. They didn't have cream rinse back then I guess because all I remember is the pain of having tangles pulled out with a comb. Eek! Still not as bad as living in the 1920s and 30s and having to be subjected to that Permanent Machine...

Permanent Machine: The women had a ball with that. In fact it is how they discovered ECT--electro convulsive therapy. It was the prototype.

Between that and my carnival machine that electrocutes hot dogs - I just realized half my stuff is really dangerous!

I just bought a Frederics old permament maching 17 electrified curlers and a console for operation...like a operation station for a amusement ride... It works two guages, three lights and a number of switches and timer... might you know app. low and high value... Please write back asap since I'm not sure if I will be eclectrucated in the next few days... Best, jim

Nice talking to you, Jim. Let's hope neither of us gets electrocuted LOL
