This is a Brookfield-made CD 147. I've not looked into specifics, but it would be circa 1907-1921 for Brookfield.

Other companies made these, of course.

Style known as a Groove Insulator. I thought it pretty groovy.

I like the spiral grooves personally and have had the pleasure of taking them down myself from dead wires. The spiral groove works very well for removing the insulator without touching the wire and it made it easy for me because I was on the ground using a long stick to spin it off. Thanks to this design, it came off with little effort.

Colors for this style. Brookfield made many aqua and dark aqua pieces, but these can be found in green, aqua with amber swirls, emerald green and a very rare aqua with milky swirls(I found one and sold it within 2 minutes for $300). However, when it comes to the Hemingray made 147's, 99% of them are plain old Muncie aqua. But I myself do have an unlisted bright blue aqua error embossing Hemingray and a very scarce *green* Hemingray 147. However, my favorite one is a no name Hemingray piece in aqua that I found on the track I lived beside and hunted as a kid. Somehow I missed finding it in the late 1970's and found it about 1/2 mile from my childhood home in the ditch where I had hunted many times before.

Yes, the spiral was for the purpose of changing them.

The earth sucks down and pushes up many items over the years. I usually go back to my spots many times for that reason.
