We were paying for dinner a few weeks ago about 11 when I glanced at the bill and noticed something seemed very wrong with it. I kept staring at it, in particular the banner holding the "United States of America" bit when I asked what the year was on it. My parent said that something was wrong and she couldn't believe it-- it said 1969.
We swapped out the bill and I now wonder, where was it all these years and why was it now back in circulation?
It's not that old, but how often do you see pre-2000s American paper money still in circulation on the Continental U.S.? It's in fair shape, too.

While more common with larger bills ($50/ $100), I handle these with some regularity. Valued at face.

      Thank you both for viewing.

I know it's worth only face value. The thing of interest is that this was put back in circulation.

Pre- 1996 bills that are $20 or smaller are pulled from circulation-- just a matter of time and this one would have been pulled.

The thing that intrigues me is, why was it (and who put it) back into circulation. Did someone die, and this was part of the inheritance? Was an old cache discovered in a rarely accessed home safe? Who can ever tell?

You said it: "Who can ever tell?"

I got a 1934 $100.00 mixed in with newer bills several months ago.
