I think this is from the 1920s-40s. it's a very strong, high-fired terracotta. i think it was originally painted w/ a very colorful design, but it's all coming off as i clean it and remove several layers of paint. it's about 25" tall.

Was this originally plain terracotta? Somebody really messed it up, so am glad you're cleaning it.

thanks Efes. i think that it was originally painted these really wild colors w/ a crosshatch design and other colors. i think the blue inside is part of the original color.

i got more of the paint off and was surprised to see what looks like a chinese storage jar underneath! it's pretty high fired, but i don't think it's stoneware, although it is very durable. i wonder what it was used for.
