Here I would like to join what known rosary collectors called a very stunning piece. It is made of Sterling Silver, also the egg box and the beads are of old garnets. My grandmother got it a present on her 12th (she was born in 1882) for a religious occasion. And also collectors have never seen such a sterling egg before, only the tauga nut or old early plastic ones, used as box for a rosary and therefore quite amazing! Also not seen those particular extra links on a sterling rosary, on brass or even steel, but not done with sterling. It is a very interesting rosary! I could put it mid-1800s but it is always rather hard to date a rosary as styles didn't change for decades- the puffed heart center though is typical of the mid-1800s in both France and Germany. In the opinin of specialists a collector looking for a wonderful antique should be interested. Antique rosaries have gone up amazingly in the past 10 years and should continue rising. The egg and the cross have an old European hallmark of a sword, I cannot find any maker's hallmarks? That may be another path to follow.
Hello, Agram.m. This is indeed a remarkable rosary - splendid!!! The crucifix is quite beautiful and fine, I've never seen these wound sterling spiral links before!, and the egg complements the rosary beautifully. One of the most unusual and beautiful rosaries I've ever seen. Quite unusual.

As you will see it is pretty much listed by country and when you click a given country you will see the hallmarks. Some go back 100's of years. Time consuming but a good resource database. Dear Agram.m, I have been looking for more information on this most beautiful rosary ensemble. I have found another rosary with the spiral wound metal links - it dates from WWII and was made in Italy. I haven't found any other information. You already knew about the puffy heart piece. Do you have a photo of the hallmarks on the silver egg? There are some keen silver connoisieurs on Collectors Weekly, and, armed with that information, they might be able to ID the egg.

Dear miKKoChristmas11, Also many thanks for your kindly comment. As I wrote in the description this rosary must be made before 1894. Because my grandmother got it as a present on occasion of her confirmation at her 12th in the year 1894. My grandmother was born in 1882. All all the particles from the rosary and the egg are made of silver. I replaced a photo (number 4) of the hallmark on the egg under the rim edge. It's a little sword (the same at the edge of the rosary cross) and I've looked up this Dutch hallmark which means:
This sword mark was used 1814-1905 as the standard mark on articles too small for the full hallmarking. They were also used to mark the excess pieces of fully hallmarked objects made of multiple parts.
Now I go to take a look at your very old rosary. Thanks again for your interest!
