The story on this Wayne 492 Roman Column pump is a thriller for gas pump collectors. Some unknown guy dropped in to the Lakeside Storage office and left a note with the manager asking if I might be interested in a "fluted pump". When I got the note I couldn't dial my iPhone fast enough as I was dreaming that it might be the elusive Roman Column. I thought I'd never actually own. As we spoke on the phone I was driving to his house which is only about 15 min away and could not believe my eyes when I saw his pump all sandblasted and primed just waiting to go in my pick up bed!!! I could not shell the $3000 out fast enough and was so excited I almost wet my pants getting it home. The pump came from an old gas station in Wendover NV where the seller had worked as a kid as had his father. He sold me the pump because he had just found out that his father had never actually pumped gas from it like he had previously thought. I get all goose bumpy just thinking about that day and my awesome luck to have been in the right place at the right time!!! This was a pump lovers dream day come true! Happy hunting!

It's great to see the "u get it", as many people have no idea what this pump is nor how excited we are to have had it present itself to us!!! We still can't believe that it is really ours!!! We have lots of stuff we feel that way about and hope the feeling never goes away!

      Trey,
I know it was a great price, even tho it came without the glass cylinder, but $3k is still a lot of $$$ for an old gas pump. We even have more into the CV 700 double head pump that's next to the Roman, but we had to have that one too!!! OCD again!
Yes my feisty wife wonders when it will ever end? Me too!

Don't feel alone Trey and Rattletrap, my wife thinks I'm crazy! and has threat me with the big D! she's kidding....I think..LOL

      EJW-54,
Let's hope the big D stands for dollars and she is giving u more to spend on "investments" in your future. Remember that signs go up in value min 15%/yr and that's a lot better than real estate, the Market, or any financial vehicle I know about. The key is always "buying right", but that's where the fun comes in to play. Every sign is an investment n your future and it's the best 401k u will ever get! I'm putting a good portion of my 401k into signs and pumps and it's the smartest investment I have made so far.

Your right Rattletrap! I only buy when I get a really good price and it makes it twice as sweet and good investments!

      EJW-54,
Exactly! The fun of the hobby is not just "having" the signs/pumps, it's buying them at investment prices. Obviously any rich person can buy anything they want on EBay and auctions if they're willing to pay those rediculous prices. The fun part is finding the cool stuff at wholesale prices and then just enjoying watching your investment grow in value daily. It doesn't get a lot better than that!
