It's not old, but it is a keepsake to remember a momentus occasion in our nation's history. Perhaps not since the announcement of the death of Adolf Hitler, which coincidently was sixty-six years ago to the day yesterday, has the death of such an evil man meant so much to the world. A side note, the font that was used on this headline, was the biggest used by this newspaper since September 12, 2001, when the headline simply read "TERROR", and that was the largest font used since WWII.

The US Navy Seals wanted to get Prince Harry a gift. They went on line to see the couples wedding register and above flatware and below coctail napkins was "Take Out Bin" and so they chose that.

I reused your Twain quote. Very fitting.

Really is it necessary to exploit the death of a man...terrorist or not. This upsets me that you keep this on your site.
  8. Mrj303 Mrj303, 12 months, 15 days ago
I'm guessing shughs is not American or simply has no heart. This was a mass murderer, he deserves no respect.
  9. shughs shughs, 12 months, 15 days ago
"Respect a terrorist".....I don't think that is what I said or implied.
I said it like, YOU are exploiting the death of a MAN (terrorist or otherwise).
On being an american.....well I can say if you knew my life then I am probably more American than most. I am born and raised here. I am a business owner, mother, wife and very much American.
I realize what he has done and there is no need to put POLITICS on this collectors website. We don't need to see it, when it is all over the news, and newspapers and talked about in peoples homes.
I would be very careful how you distort my words. I would have to say the comments came from someone not quit educated to take what I said and see that it doesn't belong on THIS site.

Shughs, I respect your opinion, but I also respectfully disagree. I am not celebrating a death of a human being. Whether or not it is popular, this was a historical event. Like I said, a momentous occasion in our nation's history. People collect newspapers depicting historical events, good and bad, that's why there is a category for it. There are newspapers on here from when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Is that any different? I also have the newspaper from 9/11. I resigned myself to the fact that this event was going to end in his death eventually. I would have been fine with Bin Laden rotting in a cage for the rest of his life. To end the political discussion, if something upsets you, don't look at it. You obviously missed the point of this post. To the others, questioning someone's heritage and patriotism, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You have all taken this way too far. The debate can exist about whether or not this belongs on this site, personal attacks and insults, under any circumstances, do not belong on this site.

    shughs,
"Really is it necessary to exploit the death of a man...terrorist or not."

Strange thing to say in regards to a man (Bin Laden) who did little else but exploit the deaths of people for his political gain.

I see this post as no more offensive than a News Paper reading "Hitler is Dead!"

A good number of us collect political memorabilia. To censor the posting of political would censor that entire field of collectables from this site. Many during the Vitenam war were anti-military. Military items wold be offensive to some that hold the same mind set today. Do we censor it. Some hate guns, or any weapons ... delete those posts. Some see decoration and ornamentation the work of the devil (delete jewelry, and while your at it, photographs as those are consider unacceptable too). Where do we stop?

I may be an extremist, but so were the people who founded the country I was born in and live in and served in its military. They wrote of a freedom of expression! We call it the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

You have the right to express yourself on this matter. But this post has just as much right to be seen. I served in the military to protect both rights.

I served in the invasion force for Iran in 1980, while Osama Bin Ladens "buddies" held our Embassy and our citizens hostage. I served in the US Navy, at a time when Libya tried to shoot down two US Navy Planes (and was shot down instead).

I was on a ship sent on search an rescue mission for the bodies of free citizens of this world, among them Americans and an American Congressman when the Soviets murdered 269 people aboard KAL-007, before the world hardly knew it had happened, and wiser minds rescinded that order.

I remember 911 vividly. As a vet I was to (and did) address a couple hundred 3rd graders on the history of the American Flag, after leaving my home having watched the twin towers fall and the Pentagon full of my comrades MURDERED ... by this very man.

We have a different view on this. But I would say that I come by my view honestly. I am sure you do too. But I will and do defend the right to present both view and don't call for censor ship of either. That is not what America is about.

That is what Bin Laden was about and Islam is about. (I have had two close friends in life named Mohamed, and they were both FROM Iran. They were here for a reason. They told me and showed me what goes on over there in the Islamic/Religion based government.)

I do believe I have a right to be on this site because I am American and I love antiques and collectibles! Thank you and God Bless America!!!
  24. AR8Jason AR8Jason, 12 months, 12 days ago
NOT A RIGHT ... Actually this site is a privilege. It has an owner or owners. They decide who is allowed to be on this site and the rules as to what can be posted.

This particular original posting is that of VikingFan82, and the sub-posts to this posting can be deleted only by CW or by him. Therefore, no one has the "RIGHT" to post to this posting except by them. It is a privilege that has been allowed both by CW and by VikingFan82.

No one has a right to be here except CW and with in that limit, VikingFan82. Nor does anyone have the right to tell any other they can't be on this post, except CW and VikingFan82.

As far as I can tell, Americans have no more "right" here than any other nationality. Nor do I see CW limiting the privilege of this site to non-Americans. (I know some here that are not Americans and am glad they are here as the collective knowledge and education would be lessened by their absence.)

At this point, they have not chosen to censor anyone, from the original posting, to each of the posts to the original (to my knowledge). All with in their right, ability and judgement to do.

The one that say SHUGHS shouldn't be here, it is not their right to do so unless it is CW or VikingFan82.

As I have expressed, I believe that SHUGHS has the freedom of speech (no more and no less than anyone else here, American or not). But as SHUGHS expressed a desire that this posting be censored, I express the opposite. I believe it has a place here, and as much a "right" to be here as many or all the other posts here. I don't believe calling for the censorship of this post is any different than calling for the censorship of SHUGHS herself. Both, I believe, are opposite the feelings and wisdom expressed by the American Founding Fathers, regarding "Freedom of Speech."

Yes, "God Bless America," but as well, "God bless us all."

Wow, I just noticed this controversy. I guess I’ll have to throw in my 2 cents worth.
I just posted a front page newspaper with the headline President Roosevelt Dies.
Have I offended any democrats, or anyone else out there? Should my posting be censored? I don’t think so. News is news. Some try to slant the news, but it must never be censored. Sixty-six years ago, my posting was news. Today, it’s history. Viking’s posting is news today, history tomorrow. History is history. Some try to mold history for political purposes, but fact is fact and can’t be changed. Since when is the death of a terrorist political? It’s a news story, and editor’s make the headline for one purpose: to sell newspapers. Viking saved the newspaper not to exploit the death, but because he's a collector. It's as simple as that. Frankly, I think there is a moral issue involved here. Like many folks, I had mixed feelings when I watched Americans celebrating the death of Bin Laden. Is it morally appropriate to celebrate the death of a human being? Perhaps not. I prefer to look at it from this perspective: Let us celebrate the passing of the evil that this man represents.
Unfortunately, there’s plenty more evil out there and I’ve no doubt in the future that there will be more celebrations and headlines, and more newspapers to
    collect.
