Hi all! What do you call this kind of necklace clasp? A picture clasp? Figural clasp? I think it's gold, it it NOT marked. It can hold three strands of pearls, but there are only two. Freshwater pearls, I believe. Too big for Biwa. I think this was a custom piece, unless one of the strands was lost....

The clasp is LARGE, at 1.5 inches, looks like cherry blossoms.

    Thank you!

It's just a design specific open box clasp. :-)))) What does the back of the clasp look like?
It most likely did have three strands, since there are two empty loops. Where did the necklace come from?

The back is shown in the last picture. I live near SF, so I assumed Chinatown. It is Opera length. The pearls are actually quite large for freshwater appox 3/8 inch each, and each is knotted.

Possibly Japantown, too. There is one in SF & San Jose also. I only know I bought them in the SF Bay Area!

If it were mine, I would take it to a jeweler for testing and verification of the pearls. Sometimes photos only tell part of the story.
