While surfing the web, I came across this interesting necklace, which I bought at what I considered was a good price if it is what I think it is. I've been researching, but I haven't come across anything with the similar patterned back, which in some places as been well worn, so it does have age. Also what's interesting is there are no links but a type of flat bar linking each mount. Im trying to get a time period, I know in the Georgian era they did enclose their back, then into the Victoran era they left the backs open. Then there was a revival of this type of necklace during the Edwardian era.
    Any help would be appreciated.

      Pretty paste riviere necklace, Jean!
      But not Georgian...
No amethyst I think, it is paste, clear and purple.
Georgian closed backs were rounded, not flat, and the "tongue in grove" (don't know the proper name) link is not earlier than 1920.
      Is it marked for silver?

No marks, it was a gut feeling buy. Thanks for your Kyra. :-)

Same links and back pattern on this one, but wrong era in description (to justify a crazyyyy price???)...

My goodness, the price of that necklace. I know my necklace is a Riviere, but didn't know what time period. I did look at the Georgian Riviere but like you said all the enclosed backs were rounded. I saw the necklace and because the price was a excellent one I decided to go ahead and buy it, I also think it's extremely pretty and wearable. The link you sent is definitely a very similar necklace. Yet again thanks for your expertise , I don't know what I'd do without you. :-)

Hi Jean, cool necklace and very desirable because it's a riviere, these are so sought-after since Anna Wintour made them popular again. I agree with Kyra it's probably Deco 1920's and the link she gave must be the same maker, well spotted.

The "tongue in groove" design looks like it stops the links rolling over when it's worn. Good score!

      Hi Paul,
To be honest I took on board what you said on your Riviere post. It was such a good price I had bid and won. I was surprised that there was only two people bidding. The real plus is I do really like it, I'm hoping I'll be getting lots of wear out of it.

It's likely from Czechoslovakia, I have a bead necklace with a very similar hidden clasp (clear paste) that is signed.
