My good friend shared this photo with me today of a find his friend found. We do not have any information on it, but we are thinking it is related to wine or cheese making?
Does anyone here have any clues or ideas?

What points you toward cheese making ? That's a bit out of the box, but better than anything I can come up with right now. I'm thinking the stopper has to also have a relief tube to the top to relieve the vacuum.
Well we were thinking the handle means heat. I'm not that versed in cheesemaking, but my friend thought it could be a possibility. We are really dumbfounded honestly.
Well, my dumb is really founded !
The bottle was dug up (if that is sand, and certainly if any light white staining in it) and looks like a '40s vinegar bottle unless the glass sinks in to be held by that band.
The other item shows no signs (from what I can see) of being dug (no corrosion/holes). Just looks vintage.
No idea really either, but this is what I infer....
Metal holder appears to be able to hold bottle in either up or down position. So bottle is able to be set on floor or table stopper end up to be filled with something. The metal holder used for stability while filling. Then stoppered and holder used for transport. Then flipped stopper side down so it could be emptied by hanging and gravity assistance.
Could this be for veterinary or medical purposes?
Seems that this was the last thing I thought about before going into my coma !
After enlarging the picture, I have a couple of questions. Is that a round handle at the mouth of the jug? Is the piece of metal protruding from the holder on the left side of the picture just a flat piece of metal or is it round too- like it would have held a smaller bottle or slid onto a pole of some kind? does the holder appear to be made of brass or copper? I wonder if it held sulfuric acid for recharging batteries? It keeps reminding me of a smaller version in a metal holder that was used in the old brass fire extinguishers. Could it have held a chemical that when flipped and allowed to mix with another chemical in a vat or tank, then produced some kind of reaction? I don't know. Just keep shakin' my head and lettin' the marbles bounce around!
Just a thought, I have an upside down hanging glass bottle that was part of an old stove. Has a wick like screw cap on bottom. Never been used. Can send picture if interested, maybe.
Packer, sounds like you have a kerosene fridge. When this came back up, I thought "acid" & then read Kady's remarks. I'm wondering on those lines too now.
packer hit it. Ours were one gallon back when I grew up and had to keep the stoves running. Only kerosene stoves back then but they kept us warm.

Yes I do blunder. That happens when you get four days older than dirt. I am getting where I can type again and see out of both eyes, so beware.
