Here is one of my favorite. A nice photo of an Assistant Surgeon in the USN. Per Navy regulation his cap device, shoulder boards and cuff stripes date his uniform somewhere between January 29, 1864 and December 1, 1865.

It has a back mark of Bogardus, Photographer, 363 Broadway New York with a 2 cent Federal Tax Stamp used between Aug 1864 and Aug 1866 to help pay for the Civil War. Inside the stamp it read Phil 363 B'dway and it looks like 1865?

      Nice image!

The revenue tax on photographs was in effect from 1 AUG 64- 31 JUL 66.
