I loved this lamp the minute I saw it across the floor. It is very heavy and made from red clay with the only clue of its origin as a little sticker on the base. Any help identifying it will be well received. I love the ram heads because I'm an Aries.
Probably made in the very early 1970's, where there was a great export of lamps and tables mainly made of plaster which was a large part of the new booming export of lamps from Italy. It had started in the mid 60's and many of these items were part of that export business. Many stores at the time had bee set up for the export trade. There was some copying, most like your tables are a more original item. Some had glass tops and a lot of the plaster cupid bases had real marble tops, mainly white common marble but sometimes black marble with gold striations. I had bought a few of them in the early 1990's when I seen a lot of them in Canada here in garage sales. Very few pieces overall were signed. I added this to my collection of sightings here on this site. Just on the left "Add to collection."
The above I wrote for the plaster lamp someone else showed. Starting in about 1966 there was a huge import trade for these lamps and statues, and also the metal ones mainly made in Italy. California produced a lot but they were a different variety. Many shops were started for particularly these lamps and lamp bases. The export business was heavy at the time, and many stores were set up just on these lamps and statue lamps.
