This mallet has come in handy as I use for items where a steel head hammer may be a bit much. Not sure what the head is made from but it seems to rubber of some sort.
The closest match to this is the Sears Soft Blow Mallet. Highly likely that it is some version of the Sears mallet. Has the same split along the cent of the head and the same tack that connects it to the handle.
Note the hole in the base of the handle does not go all the way through but is deep enough to hang it from a nail in the wall.
fortapache, I can't answer your question, but I have one like yours with the exception, the hole towards the base of the handle is bored all the way through on mine.
