On the left end of the bottom row of the collection picture posted on Sept. 28th is a Pilliod Lumber Co., Style #50, 7 drawer chest. The main difference in this chest is Pilliod used a mechanical lever arm to lock the lid closed. The front panel pushed against the arm when put back into its closed position. No other company did that, they used a keyed lock to lock the lid closed. This chest was built in 1914 – 1916. When I received it, it looked like it was leatherette finished because it was so black with years of oil and grime buildup. But it cleaned up rather nicely.
In 1914 they released their first chest, which was the Style #50. They also came in leatherette finish. Sorry blunderbuss2, this is all the pics you get on this one. Have a good one…..Ted

Fabulous box! Is that a mirror on the inside at the top?

The wood grain on all the ones I've seen are beautifully selected. I like the locking slide for the front panel, but it makes me wonder why they didn't then put the lock on the top, so that everything was secured ? Thanks for sharing.

Yes Courtenany, that's the original mirror. Some Pilliods, some Unions and Mid-West Mfg. used oval mirrors......Ted
