Hi, this is a Marklin set given first to my Brother and then to me. It was originally bought by my grandfather in 1955. It has been rarely used and has a rough appearance but still runs quite well.

If anyone could tell me what it's worth and where I may be able to get it restored, I would be VERY grateful. Thanks.

Hi there. I took a long look at the photos you posted. The locomotive of potential value is the SK800 (black streamlined steam engine). Take a lok at my collection, you will find it there. Unfortunately, these date back to a time when the metal was not that great and in your case, we are seeing the damage done by zinc pest. One of my German restaurateur has given me information on "zinc pest" and I posted it on my site on here. When it starts, there is nothing anyone can do to stop it. The metal will start to crack and distort the locomotive and tender. You may be able to delay it by making sure your collection is kept in a dry room where there is no great temperature changes. For some reason I cannot tell if the actual color of this engine is green or black. It looks like it has a gold stripe that used to run along the side. If so, it is a SK800.3 Otherwise, it is a SK800.14 The SK800.3 was manufactured in 1939 and in excellent condition, carries a nice price tag. Take a look at my display, there is one there. Let me know if it looks like yours in color. The SK800.14 in excellent condition is also sought after by collectors. By excellent condition, I mean clean of any zinc pest (properly stored in dry, 18 to 20 degree C ) environment and no humidity. The electric motor has to be in running order and nothing missing on the engine. Very rare to find one in excellent condition. Re: the long passenger cars behind your SK800! I cannot find anything on them and believe me, I have books here, catalogues that go back to the 1020s. The color on your passenger cars (long and small) is "brown/red" according to my books. The roof with the pod on top dates back to 1939, 1940 but according to my books, does not belong to the car it is on in your photo. I may be wrong. If you post it on Marklinusers.net, they have a forum there and someone may be able to help with that. Your 2 smaller passenger cars are also brown/red color according to my books. That passenger car in that color dates back to 1953. I see it in green in my book but the color is mentioned as belonging to 1953 only. The little black steam engine (three drive axes) should have the number Betr.-Nr.658 F. on it It dates back to 1984. A little Danish locomotive! The little silver acid carrier was made over a number of years, starting in 1955, to 1979. Am not sure what yours dates back to. The little red dump wagon is made of plastic correct ? The red only! Manufactured 1953 to 1976. If it is completely metal, it is from 1936 to 1952. From what I can see on your photo, it is plastic. The old Marklin transformer is from the 50's and I would be careful using it. It probably only has the 2 prongs and no ground. They are built sturdy and I have one that still works very well. Have you tried powering up thye SK800 and the other small steam loco ? You may want to put a few drops of oil on the gears first and see if the wheels rotate by hand before applying power to it. Positive to the center slider on the bottom of the loco and negative to a wheel (or body ). Hoping this was of some help.
