I saw this lovely large serving plate today, in our cheapo charity shop (£2). I love the swans design, and would love to know more about the maker etc, but is completely unmarked. It is in very good condition so it could be new, though I am not sure china makers use this sort of design anymore. The design makes me think of a Scottish Loch! Its 16" across and pretty heavy. Any suggestions as to maker, pattern etc would be great.

Your pretty serving platter is most likely to be either the creation of an anonymous Staffordshire pottery or an Asian import item. Not possible to identify the pattern or maker. The design is transfer printed. There are no other photos of this platter on the web.

I had another look on the internet, and found a similar platter with ducks, and the design round the rim was the same (though in different colours) which was described as a vintage transferware Mid-century vintage Japan china platter. So thanks Efesgirl, for giving me an idea as to where to look.

I’m looking at the centre illustration and believe it is Caernarfon Castle in Wales with Snowdonia Mountains in the background.

I am not sure about Caenarfon. My son went to University in Bangor, so we know the area quite well and it didn't strike me as being in Wales. Then again, if it's a Japanese made plate, it could be anywhere!
