i think its a ashtray but am not certain on it, am not sure of the material its made could be ceramic could be porcelain or clay or even china it has a shiny glaze over it and the rim and two holders on sides look like brass or copper

This is an ashtray. The brass pieces are for the cigarettes. Made of porcelain with a transfer printed design. The design is a Limoges style, which is French. Dates to somewhere around the 1950s. This is a nice one, so look after it. :-))))))
