These are the sellers photos, my friend has the brooch in the U.K. I shall update when I'm in the U.K. In November.
The brooch is a Mourning brooch which swivels from the photo of the gypsy girl to the hair.
I've asked my friend to tap the painting and it is porcelian. I bought the brooch because I'm really interested in the painting of the girl, as I've seen the same or similar paintings many times on pendants and brooches. There are superficial stratches to the painting and some very sloppy soldering work, any ideas kyra.
The hinge and clasp in my opinion are Victorian and I'm guessing the brooch is from the 1870s, I don't know when mourning brooches became unpopular. I've no idea of metal, it could be gold but probably gold on silver or pinchbeck or even base metal. I also have no idea of the country of origin.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks for looking

This is a very similar brooch, I was thinking it could be from Europe

      Beautiful!

The portrait in your link is very similar! Perhaps inspired from a painting...

I always thought these swivel brooches were English, but have no doc about that...

Mourning pieces stopped around 1890, I think.

The mount seems base metal, pinchbeck usually stay rather bright.

The lead solder must hold the twisted rope part to the mount (old repair or adaptation).
I'm afraid the two parts separate if you try to remove it :-/, your skilled friend may give you his opinion about what to do to improve that.

Hi kyra, I know my brooch isn't the same quality as this pendant, but I suppose that's why I was thinking my brooch could be German.

My friend is coming to Spain at the end of November, I shall ask him if he has any recommendations on how to deal with the soldering issue. As always thanks for your advise and comment.

These are new photos, as you can see it needs some TLC, will post more photos when the works been done. I still haven't found out about the lady, even though I've seen her on many pieces of jewellery.
