I found this nickel however can not figure out if it is the illusive highly sought 1964 nickel or if it is just another old nickel. I understand that coins minted in philly were not mint marked however I am getting contradicting information about this year. As I understand it all 64 nickels were mint marked to the right of Monticello. Can anyone help me out?

      Minted in Philadelphia.

Perfectly normal for it not to have a mint mark.

So how do you tell the difference in the one without a mint mark that is valuable and the one without the mint mark that is a philly?
    6. TubeAmp TubeAmp, 7 years ago
It would be in observing the finish of the coin. The sharpened square edges of the rim.

"SPECIAL STRIKE" is the key to the valuable coin-- as ta noted.

But how do you distinguish a special strike from a regular strike without a mint mark? I'm just having trouble understanding that.

Read the description below the pictures/ values and compare your coin to the special strike (sharp strike, sharp/ square edge rims, satin like appearance).

Your coin has none of these features.

Thank you! I can see that now. New to this so I have no idea what to look for without a little guidance. I have several other coins that I have collected and wouldn't mind getting an opinion on. Any chance I could share these with you?

Hey guys! Im new here. I also believe I have the nickel with no mint, and instead a spot, and a somewhat sharp edges. It has a slight.. Tannish off silver color? Although I don't have a high quality Camera. How can it be checked or verified cause after reading posts I actually found it in some cha ge about a week ago. Been seeing a bevy of older dated coins in change lately and this got me intrigued.
