I recently bought this at a consignment shop. It is a little over 6 " high and about 3 " across at the top. The motif has a woman's hand wrapping around it. I know nothing about glass but bought it because I thought it was very unusual. Can anybody give me any information about what it may be?

You might find some info here .... http://abc.com.au/tv/collectors/segments/s2962850.htm
From what I have read on these they are just called hand vases, seems hundreds of varieties. But I have no idea on their worth, just know that many varieties were made.

      Hi,
I just saw one on EBay in milk glass by Fenton. Try typing in hand vase on Ebay. Good luck!

Your hand vase is a recent reproduction of a hand vase made by Gillinder and Sons for the 1876 Philedelphia Centennial. The originals were only made in clear with frosted surface. See link for an original and a reproduction in cobalt blue . Once you get there, scroll down a bit:

Thanks Paul. I have learned about hand vases which I did not know existed before! The one I bought said it was "vintage". Oh well live and learn.

I'm thrilled to see Paul referred you to my blog to answer your query. He is correct. Your vase is a repro. and comes in several colours often (incorrectly) referred to as "depression glass" on ebay. Only the frosted ones with Centennial 1876 on the cuff are antique.

Paul, it's nice to know someone has read my blog. THANKS!
