I got is a gift from an old friend. She insisted that it was in her family for ages. I am guessing it is German, since she was. It consists of three elements: the tipping kettle, the base, and the removable heating element. It is 18" tall. The kettle has lots of numbers on the bottom but I can not figure out what they mean. It is Sterling Silver. Could you please help me with establishing the origin and approximate age of the samovar. Thank you so much.

The marks are rubbed, so not possible to accurately determine what they mean. Is the water pot gilded inside? The number is the registration number. Items that are multiples and solid silver normally have the same hallmarks on each separate piece.

Check out the term 'Kettle on Stand'.

There are design features on yours that will help to date it: the handle, the feet and the moulding on the body of the kettle.

Looks late 19th century to my eye.

I found a mark on the bottom of the base! How could I missed that I do not know how to add the extra picture. There is a letter V or roman numerical V and then a picture of the tall ship/sail ship with three masts. There are flags on masts and you can see the waives on the "water". Underneath there is a number 13041 and one step below 6V(?) And I had it checked today - silver plated not sterling silver.
