My husband inherited this table from his mother. His uncle made it in his woodworking shop. A separate framed glass piece fits on the top. The table top also has carvings. It was made about sixty years ago.

I love the table. It is beautiful. I saw your picture of it while searching for info on my table. I have a table similar in design. It was my Grandmothers. It appears to be hand carved and the glass top is removable. I thought it was meant to be used like a serving tray.

You need to write down all of the information you can verify with as many names and dates as possible, it will only increase it's value later on. It's one of my pet peeves that some items go unidentified because nobody 'wrote it down'........It's very nice.
I think you need to get some professional advise on the damage being caused by the top, I'm sure something can be done to salvage the damaged finish and prevent more damage.......Did he also carve the frame?
Thanks, Pop. Yes, he carved everything. Your advise is sound about documentation of heirlooms. I need to talk to Uncle Tip and find out exactly when he made it (he's 87). I think the dark areas is water damage or moisture caught in-between the table top and glass. I'm debating whether to attempt to try do-it-yourself remedies or seek professional advise!
Please don't 'make-it-worse-yourself' this would really be worth the investment oftime and effort to find a pro. PLEASE !

I think it looks great as it is-- I'd leave the top alone.
I think that the SLIGHT stain adds character to it. Your Uncle might even have a story behind it. My advice is don't let anyone touch it!
