Not sure what this is it might be part of a light fixture maybe but could be something entirely different. It's brass and the bottom part comes off. If you have a clue please let me know!

Pipe suggests its a gas light but the arms etc have me puzzled.

We were thinking it might be some kind of light but the part that hooks on threw us off. It's a cool weird thing and really heavy for its size too. It's just about all I can do to hold it up with one arm but I'm not all that strong either haha.

On closer examination... I think it IS a gas light. I was looking at it wrong. In image 1... those small holes had an orifice that the flames came out. The 8 arms were for containing the top of the flames to prevent the ceiling from catching on fire I believe, and the pipe, of course was the gas supply line. The pipe itself would have been above the ceiling and supported the weight of the light. Very cool piece. As for age... mid to late 1800's is my guess. Common folk would not be able to afford one that nice, so probably in a rich mans house and before electricity.
