Although I am cutting back on buying anything other than jewelry, I had to have this vase. It is in perfect condition except some very light wear on the gold rim. I have spent hours to look for one like it on line but so far no lack. What I found was one listing of what appears to be the exact shape of my vase that stated it was a French Art Deco vase. This vase had only some golden rims. Then I checked for "deer" or "forest" and even "Black Forest" and "etched and gilded rims" and didn't find a match either. I also checked out American makers, but non of the examples seem to match my vase. The vase is made of thick black glass, probably pressed glass. I believed it could be amethyst glass but it doesn't allow any light through.

Any ideas on what this is would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for looking:)

freiheit, This could be Bohemian "Moser", it's just a guess.

      Regards

Thanks, Alan2310. I looked at Moser too, but I don't think my vase is of this kind of quality. But I do think that it could possible date back to anywhere from the 1920's to maybe the 1950's or 1960's or so.

But still very beautiful piece, I will I bought too.
Your estimated are good I think for aging.
First half of 20 century, is the gold decoration is engraved(deeper) to the glass or applied to the surface??

      Regards
      Alan

That's really something! I know what you mean about trying to restrict buying to only jewelry. Me, too, but well.... :-)))))

Thanks for your comment, Efesgirl. I am glad I am not the only one...

Alan2310, the design is carved/etched into the surface and then gilded. I read somewhere the sometimes this is also done with acid. I am not at all familiar with the process. As for the age, I thought that this design is too "romantic" for later than the sixties. That was my reasoning but I have been wrong before:(
