Does anyone know the origin of this item? I think it may be pewter. My husband thinks it may be from a church? I have tried to show the mark and number upon the base, I hope you can distinguish them enough to assist. Thank you in anticipation of any help.

It's pewter. The shape is that of a wine tastevin. I suspect someone altered it.

I found this which may also answer the unsolved questions. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porringer I found another for sale in the US. How strange to stumble upon something so unusual.

After additional research I have discovered that this is an American Porringer candle holder that would have had a glass chimney cover. It was manufacturers by York Metalcrafters. Fascinating!!
