Understand this to be a lead crystal bowl, with sterling silver rim, acquired by grandfather (or great-grandfather) from an old Polish neighbor many years ago in Butte, Montana. Unfortunately, grandparents and father are passed, so this is based on my mother's recollection of what she was told.

It weighs 6 lb, 2.6 oz, with an inner diameter of 7 7/8" and sits 3 3/4" high.

Perhaps someone can tell me more of the makers markings. They appear to be a right-facing lion (or some other animal), an anchor, and an olde-English initial. And to the right of these markings is what appears to be the number 1790 followed by a capital “D.”

And can anyone tell me how one would describe/name the type of flourishing on the silver, and/or whether there’s a particular name or style of the carving design in the bowl itself?

    Thank you!

This is not American Brilliant Cut Glass. Should be listed on the "cut glass" page and not on this page.

There are those who may disagree. Heard from an executive member of the ACGA who looked at photos and said, "[y]our bowl is definitely American Brilliant Cut Glass." In addition, Glass Lovers Glass Database also stated, "American brilliant period cut glass."

I have no dog in this fight of whether it's ACG or not, but wanted to provide these professional opinions.
