Just picked this up at the local flea market. I enjoy researching items I've never seen before. This pliers like tool is unmarked, nickel plated steel, about 6 inches long. The horizontal rod and disk are one-piece and have different sized square drive sockets at each end. Squeezing the pliers results in a very firm grip on the wrench part in either direction. I works like a ratchet, but is obviously not one. One thought is a clock spring winder, but nothing shows up of that description. Any thoughts?
Thanks to two sleuths, it has been identified as a clock spring let down tool.
Rather large for a clock winder. If the holes are square it could be a piano maker/tuner's tool
Close. It is used to let down clock springs to disassemble the movement for repair . Search for clock letdown key , though most today have round wood handles .
I wondered how that was done. My attempt at slowly backing down the winding key didn't end so well.
