I purchased this from a thrift store for $3 because of it's perceived age and weight. I love pewter and thought that's what it was made of. I started doing a lot of research and really believe it was made in 1799. I believe the letters on pic 2 are possibly the initials of the maker. However, the back mark is hard to discern - I think it is a dragon or a griffin. And the same initials on the front are also inside the mark on the back.

I own the book - "Old Pewter - Its Makers and Marks" by Howard Herschel Cotterell, which is where I did a lot of my research.

Pretty good find for only $3!

It could very well be that old, there is a ton of English pewter out there, some of it very inexpensive, but very cool and nice.
