This pin came to me after my father passed away in 1969. It and a SS Eagle breast patch were among many little items he brought back from WWII. He fought through D-Day, The Battle of the Bulge and concluded in with a short stint in the South Pacific. I have script and occupation currency from the Philippines, Okinawa and Japan. I'm really curious about the pin I posted. Help me identify it please.
Unfortunately my father would never talk about the war. I watched him cry watching a segment of the series, "Combat". So I never asked. Happy Holidays to all.
This isn't from the European Theater & I don't believe the Pacific. I can guess at Middle East. What is the date(?), as it's a bit too blurred to be sure.
1880 is the date.
The type looks German though don't you think?
Thanks on the date. That would be after the French were learning to speak German after the 1870 War. I don't detect anything Germanic about the symbols. Nothing resembling Nordic runes to me. I just don't recognize the symbol.
The date, 1880, I believe is the date of creation or installment of who or whatever organization is represented on this pin.
I know for fact that the age of the pin is between 65 to 70 years old. That it came home with my father from WWII is fact.
Remember, he served from D-Day to the end of that conflict. Then went to the south pacific. I don't think he fought, rather he languished until the end. He did have occupation currency from Japan (USA currency) and occupation currency from France (German). War scrip from Phillipines and (Okinawa I think).
I'm thinking the initials might be: TVW going from inside left to outside right and then the obvious big W. It means? True Value at Walgreens? Sheesh! So far I'm striking out. But I have faith that we will sooner or later find out THE TRUTH surrounding the mystery. Have a great week y'all.
