Found today on a little road trip along the Ohio River. I love the bright cherry color. I guess it is made of an early plastic, although I do not think it is Bakelite. The three red petals are all separately afixed to the oval-shaped clear base. It is also plastic. I'm new to this...any ideas?

Your guess is right: it is plastic (could be celluloid) from 1940s.
Thanks so much!
Yes I agree I think this is celluloid too. In UK the Plastics Historical Society is a great resource for people who are interested in early plastics.
