Long glass tube with a spring loaded front door that says probat holland. I am just trying to find out what this thing is.

Nice, may be a piece for a coffee grinder.

Sorry, I don't know what it is. But I can help you with the text.
Probat is the name of a company. They made hot water furnaces and kneading machines for bakeries.
's Heerenberg is the place where they were established.
      The factory closed in 1978.

And someone advertised as seed jars. A company Panay also made the jars. Cool!

I got some of the really nice Probat jars in the Netherlands. On the flap are inside always mounted two round metal sheets fixed with a screw. There is nothing inside the sheets, I thought of something like a filter paper.
Has anybody an idea of the beneficial effect?
