This heavy Bakelite/Sterling silver bracelet fell out of an old sofa that had been left in my new house about 12 years ago! This 7" ladies bracelet is 1" wide and is completely intact. I love it's weight, detail, and patina. Besides the materials that it's made of, I know nothing else about it. Though I've searched high and low for more information on this piece, I have not found any to date. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

That's quite a find! I think I'll start looking in old sofas next time I go to the thrift shops!

      I am 97.3% sure it's from Mexico.

      100% sure... Taxco, 1940's (probably)

And I believe it is probably coral, and not bakelite.

Thanks for all the feedback so far! Yes, I agree that it's most likely Mexican. There are no makers marks, only a "Sterling Silver" stamp. Can carved coral be very shiny, with no scratches or wear showing after so many years? Though it's not apparent in the photos, the insets are very glossy and smooth. Does anyone have any idea of what its value may be?

You can do a pin test for bakelite. Look it up. I thought maybe coral because I wasn't sure if the color shows true in the picture.

Celiene is right it is Mexican silver the value is between $50 and $100. Lots of them in Ebay in silver and obsidian.

After performing all other recommended tests for Bakelite, I felt confident enough to attempt the "pin test" (though it's not recommended, especially for novices like me). The red insets passed all tests with flying colors, I'm glad to say! The color in the photos is fairly true, though in reality, I'd describe the insets as only a very slightly darker shade of red.

Though I haven't had time to get back and check this lovely site lately, I greatly appreciate your wonderful feedback, information, compliments and comments! I have a lot to think about before deciding what I am going to do with my bracelet, which I love, partly because of the way I acquired it, but mostly because of all the compliments that it receives. It's a real conversation starter! Again, thank you all!
