Very pretty earrings that I purchased at a thift store. Taking these to a jeweler along with a ring that appears to be made by the same person. No other mark located as yet. Remains a mystery but will up date.

The stones are man-made. The flat surface of the stone is called the crown. The crown covers nearly all of the top part of the stone. This is normal in man-made gemstones/cubic zirconia.

You're welcome! I've been a jewelry junkie for these past 35+ years, and have also learned quite a bit in my first year on this site.

Efesgirl, surely you mean "table", not crown?

OOH yes< I meant to write "table" but for some reason had "crown"on the brain! Thanks, davy!

Question for either of you...yesterday I looked at a ring being sold a as sterling silver it was mark SS MEX. Assuming SS means Stirling silver from Mexico. Later I was longing over some stuff I had at home and saw SS mark but stainless steal, not Sterling silver. Is it possible to use SS for both and how easy is it to see the difference???

SS could stand for Sterling Silver in one country but Stainless Steel in another. Have you seen the website 925-1000.com? It gives a good overview of silver hallmarks by country, for example, you can open Mexican marks and find out whether SS was ever used to mark sterling silver. Not exhaustive, but very good resource, especially for beginners - you can learn a lot.
