We bought this APCO sign from a Collector friend in Joplin a few months ago and found ourselves in a huge Brujaja over it! The problem came when we went to pay for it with Pay Pal. We got this weird notice from Pay Pal advising us that the US Govt was investigating the purchase and it was a prohibited transaction because it was on the "List" of items illegal to export!!! Really? It took many phone calls and emails and finally pictures of the sign to convince the Pay Pal people that APCO was just an antique brand of Gas in the USA and not a prohibited Atomic related export!
Finally they processed the payment and we picked the sign up on our way back from our trip to Hershey. Who ever heard of a quarantine on APCO signs anyway? Well now you know that APCO is a dirty word to our Govt watchdogs and you better be careful using the word or you'll join us on the "list". Merry Christmas to all!! I think we would get a gift of Coal or a stick in our Stocking from the Govt this year for using a "naughty word" but both Coal and Wood leave a Carbon footprint so those are naughty words too! Double jeopardy?

Right! Actually if you google it u will find that the same letters are used by a current Company that sells Controlled/quarantined stuff. It is a huge misunderstanding re the sign that we bought.

I actually didn't realize that anyone ever read the stuff I put in the articles. Surprise! You're probably right about a watch list? It's computers that are the problem as well as the solution. They don't distinguish contexts and just recognize words that are entered as "potentially" risks. It's a very big spider web these days and sometimes us innocent guys get stuck in it by accident. I was shocked at how difficult it was to get the clearance and transfer the funds. That's government!!!
