I found this little pin but I have no idea what I got. It is definitely old, a few decades for sure, and it looks like Mary on the little medallion. Based on the thistles I am thinking it might be Scottish.
I am not sure what the material is. There are no marks whatsoever.
I found it in the junk section and could not leave it behind - LOL
I am always interested by unusual objects and enjoy learning about them. I searched for some time on line but without any results so far.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know why there is a thistle, the image is of the Virgin appearing to Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes :-)
I wonder if someone attached the small medallion to the front of the brooch - it looks out of place.

Efesgirl, yes, it could be attached later. I do, however, think that it belongs together because of the material and the way the metal is stamped with the same great detail.

I think it makes a great pin for a kilt or other, as it is Scottish, great find, had seen some fine pins a few months back with similar theme !
