Just looking for an opinion. I bought this as part of an auction, and don't know if I should spend the money to have it redone or just try to sell it as is. I paid $250 for the auction and have pretty much made the money back.
I would estimate???? $5-600 to refinish?? Does anyone have an opinion on it's value when redone. I was not able to find a name or any information on the desk to figure out its era.
Any help would be great, I live in Orlando, Fl
I have one like this only it is Brownish/Black in color and the left side has a top drawer. The bottom two pull pull out together and is a filing drawer. A pendeflex frame and folders fit fine. I got mine out of the office of an aquaintance's grandfather's insurance office. As I recall his grandfather started his busines in the late forties or early fifties. I am about to put mine up on the market as it is tooo large for me. As to yours. I have aalways understood that the less you do to older furniture the more the value. You may want to restore but refinishing take off the history. It may have already been stripped or refinished before you got it. I am pretty sure of my time frame. I got it for free as long as I hauled it away. It is in great condition and has been used as a desk since the 80's. If you get any other info let me know.
I have this same desk and am trying to learn it's value. What have you discovered?
The spring loaded shelf in the left pedestal should pull all the way out and swing upward and lock in place. It would have had a typewriter on it and it could be tucked away when not in use. Very common mass produced desk. Most schools and public buildings had them. When they were replaced you could get them for free just to move them. You couldn't give me one let alone talk restoring it. They are to common and lack value even refinished.
Agree with fhrjr2-- very common mass produced desk.
Very little value as most don't want to deal with a desk of this size and weight.
