This is Mrs. Miller i found her in the attic of the new house we bought. . There are others as well. .but only this one has a name. She is my favorite. I love the antique wood frame. . And she looks to be done in charcoal. I think it also says she was from Chat. N.Y. i have kinda looked her up. .but haven't found anything. I think my neighbors told me back in 1850 she may have lived here. I can't read all that's wrote on the pictures back. I love the old wavy poured glass. .it makes the picture neat!

Nice picture! Are you sure about Miller though? To me, it looks more like "mrs Tomas Arilles rear". Not sure about the capital A in the last name but doesn't look lke an M. Pretty sure the last letter is an "s", as in "..illes", rather than an "r".

The whole sentence looks like "mrs Tomas Arilles rear of Douglas Factory st. Chat. N.Y." Does it make sense? Could it be Chatham, New York?
    3. OlofZ OlofZ, 7 years ago
Or could it be Chateaugay, NY? There was a prolific family, Douglas, who had various business there: http://history.rays-place.com/ny/chateaugay-ny.htm

Well our home was built in 1849.. and there are other pictures like this. We are in New York. Not sure how far from there. . Id have to google since I'm new to the area. . But that makes sense. .also on why i couldn't find her. . She must of had money to have a picture like this! It's quite big actually. . 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall possibly. . I'll have to look into that! Thank you!

      Really nice frame!

The photo itself dates from the late 19th century. It is a copy of a smaller image that was enlarged and then artist retouched to enhance details.

These type of photos are often referred to as charcoals.

Ok our house only has had 5 owners in its 167 years. Us being the 5th.. and the 3rd had it since 1906 until 1969.. so my guess would be she was here before 1906.. i have asked that family and they don't know who she was.
