Found this item and have no idea what it is or for. There are no makers marks. The tip is spring loaded and when retracted reveals a circular steel rod about a 1/4" long.

    Thanks

This looks like a brad driver, used to push small wire nails into wood .

If you have ever tried to use nails to frame in a picture, this is the tool to have!

Thanks for the responses!! I pondered that usage but what got me is how far back the rod/pin is. It doesn't seem like there would be much control on where the nail/brad goes or if would get wedged in between the rod and body. Also the tip would leave a divot which isn't usually desired. The beveled tip has more wear on it like it was inserted in something.

Okay, ignore my previous comment. Just tried it out with some brads and on some pine. It worked great. Keep it on angle for placement and it barely left a divot in the pine. ????
      Thanks again!!! ????
