I have a Garcia Ambassadeur 5000c,not in as good of condtion as yours because mine has seen many hours of casting and trolling.Never had the 6000 but have had a 4000 and 5000 both good reels. My 5000c is from around the late 1960s or early 1970s, don't remember what I paid for it but has been a great reel .Don't think they are rare but are certainly sought after by collectors especially if you have the box, instructions, leather case and tools. Thanks for sharing your photo with us and I enjoyed my walk down memory lane.
I have a 6000 that is at least 50 years old, excellent condition, was wondering what it might be worth
thanks
jim
i have a record 6000 with case and oil vile in good condition, always wondered what it might be worth. ive heard the earlier models have a thin grey spool and dont have any serial numbers on the footplate
I also have record 6000 with the thin grey spool & no serial number on the footplate, it also has its instructions, oil, and its leather case just wondering how many were made, what it might be worth, the instructions are from 1953 thanks
He All Just keep an eye on ABU 6000's on ebay it's a great barometer . And for the best info on Abu Garcia check out Simon Shumonomura " The Ambassador and I"
Early 6000 had no serial numbers. No telling how many were made without shipping records.
In the past 24 hours I got an Ambassadeur 5000 (red and high serial number) and a 6000 (red and no serial number). Are these best to be put on a shelf and admired or to be put on a rod and used?
It's up to you, but I put mine on he shelf.
I have alot of vintage 6000c ,6000,5000 and 5000c Ambassadeur reels and they are tanks pulling in monster fish. The only problem I have is that vintage poles break do to age and don't use them because they become brittle.Combine an old ambassadeur reel with a modern shakespeare fiberglass rod "Ugly Stick",but replace the eyes with saltwater ones wrapped with heavey rod wrap and glue with modern epoxy. Then you will pull in anything.
There is nothing like an old Ambassadeur reel!I buy them and use them but combine good parts to make a few to store away for the love of the reel and never use them.Someone will get them when I die lol!
