Oh! My Goodness. I do believe this is an old woman, dead, and having a wake outside??? She is in something that is NOT a coffin (or is it something I just don't recognize??.)..Did they use this thing" for the wake or funeral and then bury her on site? Chilling! Looks like snow on the ground. Enlarge the photo.

I think she's alive. Look at her hand-- it's ready to keep her from falling off if something went to move.

Looks like a California wake to me.

She is on a wooden chaise lounge with a cover and she is alive to my eyes .

OH GOD, can you really say a kid would place there mother in a contraption like that. If she is alive--there is snow on the ground, she is all dressed up, no blanket. I think rigor is of course set in and her hand is clutched at death. What if she was killed and locked in that "thing" WHAT IS IT? I think I see a roll of plastic behind her. Well, I do have quite an imagination I know--but something sure is very weird here. Spirit Bear thinks she is alive...I am not at all sure, but I do hope so!

To me it looks like a stage set, and frankly I find her more looking like a male pretending than a woman dead. A "for funsies" type of photo.

---or a grimacing "death mask"--Could be a man but lots of real old ladies seem to look like men. Could be lack of skin tone and hormones. I think this person looks absolutely miserable! I am still freaked over it. Will I sleep tonight!!

Just a picture of their grandma laying on her new chase lounge, under a sun-shade. It's on a little bit of a slope, and she's afraid it's going to roll, or move, so she's hanging on, and nervous. Look at the arbor, and leaves on the tree, no snow there! They tried to take it the other direction, but in the shade you couldn't even see her, and besides, when couldn't see where she might fall, because the sun-shade was on the down-hill side, it made her more nervous.
Poor old grandma, put her through all that just so they could see her on her new Birthday gift, that she'll never use once they leave, because she loves her old over stuffed armchair that she has up on the porch, that her cats also sleep on! :^)

UGGH! I have never seen a sun lounge like that--Put the cover one her and the sun on metal will cremate the poor thing. This is at the least "elder abuse!" Well Bill you may have solved this mystery! But this thing she is in, is not anything the likes of anylounge I have ever seen! I assume this photo is taken in another country? I agree-if this person is alive she will get up and get the hell out of there--have a patio sale and sell the dreaded contraption. No one would ever get me in a position like that for the folly of someone taking a photo l! So far, here in AZ. all who see the photo say--"dead woman". Buit I really hope she isn't and will get up and get in her day bed on the porch with the cats. That is a happy, happy thought and now I can sleep. (and dream of "zombies")
Thanks to all who came over and speculated..

It is an UV box to give her some suntan, pic was taken just before closing it and turn the UV on ;-D

It has even fringe! What a nice "coffin", lol!

Billretirecoll, you have a great imagination too, but your sense of observation is sharp, and I'm sure you're right about the gift, and she won't use it again ;-D

Actually we used to have one very similar to this lounge on our patio when I was young. Very comfortable, adjustable back, lay flat, to upright for reading, and 3 positions, plus wheels on the back, so easy to move. Ours was made of Redwood, the one here probably is too. The sun-shade, is adjustable too, it's on pivot hinges, that hold at points on the hinge, if you notice the fringe on the back, so either side can be the front, and open. The grimace on Jessie's face is because, she had to sit up, and is looking right into the sun, for the picture. the sun is low in the sky, so her children are getting ready to leave, and wanted one more picture of her, on her Birthday gift, before they left from the great day that they had with their mother on her Birthday! :^)

I think it is just the old photo making her look a bit creepy..but think def! alive, she is looking straight at the guy taking her photo..those type of sun shades were often seen when I was a kid and you still do! see them on beaches in Australia and here..:-)

The contraption is really ugly. I used to go to the beach all the time. No person was under this type lounge. Still get the creeps looking at this!
