Pick this up at an antique store in Suttercreek California it was a consignment type shop with a booth Space for each individual vendor. Bought it not knowing what it was but I knew I liked it . I contacted the seller but they did not know or could not remember where they acquired it from or who. I use it as a garden rake to pick up debries which satisfies my needs for us it's functionality but my curiosity peaks every time I look at it or use it .What's the original intended function of this iteam , who manufactured it . I don't think it's a homemade only because it has the same type of opening and closing mechanism as my country store stop shelf reach tool uses ! If anyone could help me out there with anything they might know about this item would be a big big help ! Even an assumption or guess might spark something that maybe two it's identification and original function!

Re slackjack i have done some research into that possibility but havent found a clam rake with the closing mechanism . They tended to be more shovel like. Your does remind me that I'm headed down to the beach on Sunday so I have to take it bravely take it out and give it a try although theThe locals laugh out of it just give me a chance to pick seafaring brains little bit. The weather permits i'll post an update because there is definitely the possibility that's what it is used for ! Thanks for the timely comment.
