I inherited this plate, though sadly, I really know nothing about it. The plate says; A Century of Service. Norfolk and Western Railway. 1838- 1938 on the front. There is a picture of a young boy running towards the track as a man waves and a woman looks on. There are transfer pictures of different steam trains with different dates in the corners. The back of the plate has IVORY Lamberton Scammel U.S.A. on the versa. Designed expressly for NORFOLK & WESTERN RAILWAY CO. Furnished by Barker. Jennings Hardware Corp. Unfortunately, some of the transfer has worn away on the image, especially on one of the boys arms and a also below the steam. There are a few other marks on the plate, so it is certainly not in perfect condition. If anyone could give me some information about the item, I would be most grateful. I think it might be fairly rare, though perhaps I am wrong.

Hi, this is a Norfolk & Western Centennial Pattern plate. It may look like a souvenir but it was actually used in all N&W dining cars starting in 1938. Out of a 5 star rarity rating it is a 3, not rare but not too common, either. It shows development of N&W steam power over the railroads' first 100 years. It is a real piece of railroad dining car china. A pretty piece. Enjoy it.

That's fantastic information, and actually rather nice to know that it was used in the dining car, as opposed to just just sold as a souvenir.
Thank you so much for taking the time to inform me about it.
