This basket has been in my wife's family for many years. She is not sure of the history behind it but her parents were raised in the plains of South Dakota during the Depression era. She also had an uncle who was a career Air Force pilot, so it might be something he collected.
The basket measures 14 inches wide by 3 1/2 tall. The basket feels heavy for its size, is tightly woven and is well worn and polished on the inside. There seems to be a place that has been repaired but looks like it was done when the piece was made as the rest of the design is offset on the same row.
I am greatly impressed by the knowledgeable information presented on this website. We never realized there were so many sub-sets to tribes that could be identified by the style of basketmaking!
Any info would be appreciated . Thank you.

Our CanyonRoad is the basket expert here, and there are some other members who know a bit about baskets, if they see this thread, they may be able to help. :)

It's Pima (now called Akimel O'odham), from southern Arizona, a coiled willow basket, with devils claw black decoration.
