This is a pretty little brooch that I picked up somewhere along the way. The back of it is marked with the word Germany and the letter M. Does anyone know a date range for this??

Oh I was hoping there was an explanation for M in that link, I have a few pieces with the M. Very pretty brooch, Mrs! :)

Katherine-thanks-I have not seen many either with this mark.

I have at least two pieces of jewelry with the M Germany mark, can't find out what the M stands for, and that link doesn't explain. Seems like it should be a simple thing to find out, but perhaps not. Very pretty setting on your brooch, is the cabochon glass or thermoset, do you know?

I think it should be W (for West) Germany. This would mean that the brooch was made around or before 1989, when the Berlin Wall came down.

Sorry, my comment was a bit messed up. What I meant to say is that shortly after 1989 products were no longer marked with "West Germany" or "GDR" or "East Germany". That means that your piece was produced in the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany). To me, it looks like it dates back to the 1960's or so:)

The mark I've seen is def an M. I think there's probably a simply answer as you suggest, but what exactly I don't know.

Katherine-not sure what it is made of.
Freiheit, that thought had crossed my mind, but it is an "M". :)
