I got this pendant from a German seller, but I am not sure about its origin, and unfortunately there are no marks. It is unusual but still much in the Arts & Crafts tradition: Handmade with high-quality materials. Silver must be high content as it soon turns black, I guess 950. Age-wise I think early 20th century. The boulder opal is big, bold, and beautiful, and has been cut so that it resembles a painted window. The opal has a hairline on one-side, but it actually goes well with is rough and weird look. I would like to know if anyone has any ideas about where this might have come from.

So, so German. I have the von Hause book on my lap at the moment (its the best reference on German art jewellery circa 1900) and it could come right out of it.

Thanks for the loves and comments. @Jewels, I wonder whether it might be from the Darmstadt school? What do you think?

I think Germany had a pretty vibrant movement, similar to the UK with collectives, private studios & design schools so it's really hard to identify where pieces came from.

Have you been to Darmstadt? It has a great decorative arts museum. When I was there they had a jewellery exhibit on - woo hoo!
