I picked this book up from an estate sale. Paid $1 for it, the binding and cover are in rough shape and lost a lot of color but the gold detail is still there. The pages also have gilded edges. There is also a handwritten "book curse" dated 1854 by "Alan? Hunsicker. It has been living in an outdoor garage for some number of years.

Any info on the book is appreciated! :)

Is there a way to preserve this? I've been keeping it in the gallon bag under the book in the pics and have been pushing all the air out (rookie collector here).

    Any advice is appreciated :)

Sealed containers trap humidity. Bad idea.

Thanks @SpiritBear, I have no clue what else to do

A cool (room temperature or below), relatively dry (about 35% relative humidity), clean, and stable environment (avoid attics, basements, and other locations with high risk of leaks and environmental extremes). Keeping it flat also helps as SpirtBear says not a good idea storing in a sealed plastic bag it needs to breathe and not trap humidity.

Roddyq, thank you. I took all of my books out of bags. It's hard to beat the humidity here in florida but they are in a cool room out of sunlight. :)

Never heard of a book curse until this. Google says they were used as far back as 660 b.c. And were popular during medieval times. Learning again thanks for posting.
