    Another Dutch piece; but this time by the Arnhemsche Faïencefabriek.

    The Arnhemsche Faïencefabriek was one of the leading factories of what is called GOUDA Pottery. Founded in 1903 by the famous brothers Jacob and Klaas Vet who were educated at the Brantjes factory in Purmerend and Distel in Amsterdam, their company produced beautiful ornamental pottery.

    This vase probably dates to the c. 1915. The factory closed in 1928.

    This vase is marked at the bottom with an underglaze factory mark: a cockerel and ARNHEM. Over the glaze is the pattern name PALMET and a painters initial I.K.(intertwined) and mouldnumber 103.

    I like the shape of this vase. I believe it was created by Philip van Praag (1887-1942). It reminds me of the Alfred Read Freeform "pop-corn" shapes later produced at Poole pottery in the fifties.

      I have just discovered that Philip van Praag is thought to have been responsible for the Perzische decors:
      De decors “Persian”, “Lindus”, “Ispahan”, “Kashmir”, “Marantha”, “Nippon”, “Dorma”, “Palmet” en “Elrakka”, die vanaf ongeveer 1915 ontstonden zijn geïnspireerd op Perzische motieven. De ondergrond is veelal blauw of groen van kleur en gedeeltelijk wit. De gestileerde bloemmotieven zijn rood, blauw, groen, oker en wit.
