Sonnel

My Great Grandfather purchased this piece in the late 30's to early 40's during a vacation he took to the American Southwest. Though I never met my Great Grandfather, my father has told me he was a wealthy man and bought the things he wanted regardless of the price, which leads me to believe he paid quite a bit for this piece. It appears to be hand hammered and has approximately 1.5-2 inches of relief. Its approximate dimensions are 21" x 25". There is some aging present on the surface, but it has held up well over the years. I am hoping someone could give me some insight as to what this item is, who made it and what it might be worth.
